Folding Dice Tray: Size, Materials and Designs
The GameFancy folding dice tray is a printed fabric tray that snaps into shape in seconds and folds flat to fit a pocket. It sits on a 5.5 x 5.5 inch rigid base with 1.2 inch soft walls, weighs about 90 g and costs $21.70, or $32 with your own art printed on it. 27 printed designs.
How big is it?
| Base | 5.5 x 5.5 in |
| Walls | 1.2 in, soft fabric, snapped up at the corners |
| Free rolling space | about 4 x 4 in between the walls |
| Folded | about 5.5 x 5.5 x 0.5 in |
| Weight | about 90 g |
It is a one-player tray, sized for a crowded table. If you need a big shared tray for the whole group, a larger magnetic or wooden tray will suit you better; our dice tray brands comparison lists the sizes other makers publish.
What is it made of?
Two parts. The tray itself is printed gabardine, a soft synthetic fabric that holds its shape and does not fade. Inside sits a removable rigid base, also covered in gabardine. With the base in, the tray rolls evenly on a couch cushion, a bed or a convention floor, and metal dice land quietly. With the base out, the tray folds flat.
Why snaps and a rigid base?
Snap buttons hold the corners up without magnets, so the tray stays the same thin, light piece of fabric when folded. Magnets set up a second faster, and that is a fair point in their favour. In our own tray reviews, complaints about the snaps are rare. The rigid base is what keeps the rolling surface flat on soft surfaces; most folding trays do not say what is under theirs.

Questions
Does it work with metal dice? Yes. The soft fabric over the rigid base cushions metal dice and keeps the roll quiet.
How small does it fold? Folded, it is about 5.5 x 5.5 x 0.5 inches, so it fits flat in a backpack, a binder or a jacket pocket.
Is it a good gift? At $21.70 it is an easy gift for any player, and about one in ten of our tray reviews mentions a gift, most often for a friend or a partner. It pairs with a dice bag with pockets in the same print.
Can I return it? Yes, within 14 days. Custom printed trays cannot be returned.
