Read the size line before you read the price
The most common mistake in a dice tray comparison is mixing up flat size and set-up size. A folding tray is a flat sheet whose corners pull in to make walls, so the tray you roll in is always smaller than the number in the headline. Die Hard Dice publishes both: 8.5 x 11 inches flat becomes 5 x 7.75 inches with 1.75 inch walls. Forged Gaming publishes both too: 13 x 10.25 inches flat becomes a 9.75 x 7.25 inch rolling surface. Ultra PRO, FanRoll and Gamegenic publish only the flat size, so their set-up rolling area is not something you can check before you buy.
Wyrmwood, Elderwood Academy, Norse Foundry and GameFancy publish the rolling area itself. If two trays look the same size on paper, check which of the two numbers you are looking at.
Where each brand wins
The heirloom tray: Wyrmwood. Solid wood with an oiled leather surface, sized for one player (Personal, from $85) or for two to four players (Tabletop, from $105). Nothing folding in this table feels like it. It also weighs 16 to 36 oz and stays on one table. On the day we checked, most woods showed one to three pieces left or were out of stock.
Biggest folding tray for the money: Forged Gaming. A 9.75 x 7.25 inch rolling surface for $17.99 is the most space per dollar here, and it beats ours on both size and price. If you roll handfuls of d6 at once, this is the practical pick.
Cheapest tray from a known dice brand: Norse Foundry. The square Tray of Folding is $15.00. Three of its six colors were sold out when we checked.
Most reviews on a single product page: Die Hard Dice. 103 reviews at 4.99 stars on the Magnetic Rectangle Tray. The other folding trays show between one and five reviews on the page, and Wyrmwood, Norse Foundry, Elderwood Academy and Gamegenic show none.

Officially licensed D&D: Ultra PRO and FanRoll. Ultra PRO's foldable tray carries the D&D logo at $21.99. FanRoll's Masterworks trays use classic D&D artists at $24.99, though the page publishes no size or material.
Where GameFancy wins
Five things, each checkable against the table above or against our listings.
1. The only printed fabric tray in the table. Every other folding tray here is black or single-color PU leather, leatherette or polyurethane. Ours is printed gabardine in 16 designs: mothman, possums, ravens, cats, bees, galaxy, three kinds of mushrooms, three kinds of d20. If the tray is a gift for someone who loves a specific creature, this is the axis where the table does not help the other brands.
2. Your own art for $32. The custom printed dice tray is printed with your character art, party crest or map. The only other brand in this comparison that publishes a custom art option is Elderwood Academy, at $65 on top of the tray price. None of the folding trays around $20 offers it.
3. The lightest and smallest to carry. Under 100 g, and it folds to roughly 5.5 x 5.5 x 0.5 inches. The magnetic trays unfold to a flat sheet between 8.5 x 8.5 and 13 x 10.25 inches, which fits a backpack or a folder. Ours fits a jacket pocket.
4. A rigid base you can take out. None of the folding trays in this comparison states what is under the rolling surface. Ours is made of two parts: the fabric tray and a removable rigid base that sits inside it. With the base in, it rolls evenly on a couch cushion or a convention floor, and metal dice land quietly. With the base out, the tray folds flat.
5. Review evidence for the whole category. 120+ verified reviews across our trays at 4.9 stars, and 84 reviews at 4.99 stars on the Mothman tray alone. GameFancy as a shop has 7,200+ completed orders and 2,300+ reviews since 2020. About one in ten tray reviews mentions a gift, most often for a friend or a partner.
And the honest counterweight: ours is the smallest rolling area in the table, the same 5.5 inches as Norse Foundry's square tray. It is a one-player tray for a crowded table. It is not the cheapest, and it uses snap buttons where most brands around $20 now use magnets. Die Hard Dice argues against snaps on its own page. Two things worth knowing before you shop
Easy Roller Dice is closed
Easy Roller Dice still appears in "best dice tray" lists, and ChatGPT searched for it by name 19 times in our 30 logged conversations. As of 21 September 2026 its storefront is password-protected and shows an "Opening Soon" page. We could not verify a single tray from a first-party Easy Roller source.
Gamegenic does not sell direct
The prices on gamegenic.com are MSRPs ($16.99 rectangular, $22.99 hexagonal), and the site says no purchases can be made there. The price you pay depends on the retailer.
How to choose between them
One player, small or crowded table. A compact tray: GameFancy at 5.5 x 5.5 in ($21.70), Norse Foundry square ($15.00) or Elderwood's 6 x 6 in scroll ($49).
You carry your kit to a game store or a convention. Weight and folded size decide it. A fabric tray under 100 g goes in a pocket. A magnetic tray goes flat in a backpack sleeve.
You roll many dice at once, or share the tray. Forged Gaming at 9.75 x 7.25 in for $17.99, or Wyrmwood's Tabletop tray if the budget allows it.
A gift under $25. Any of the folding trays works. Pick by what the person loves: a licensed D&D logo (Ultra PRO), a plain color that matches their dice (Die Hard Dice, Norse Foundry, Forged Gaming), or a creature or theme (GameFancy). Is a wooden dice tray worth it?
